I would like to start by saying that I’m not hot on diets, yo-yo dieting, or cutting out different food groups (unless it’s sugar or fast food junk:-)) It’s just a matter of personal opinion…seeing we’re all allowed one!! I just don’t think it really has long-term success. My belief is still as mentioned in a previous post, that for long-term Healthy Living, one should choose a practical target. In my case I like to live by a 70%/30%. With proper eating and exercising being at the 70%, and room for practical compromise at 30%. This is how I maintain a Healthy Lifestyle without feeling I need to be perfect 100% of the time.
However, with that said, I would have to agree on taking certain drastic measures should ones health be at risk, or when one feels they’re ready to make a big change in their lifestyle, or just for general mind and body up-keep. This is where the Master Cleanse fits right in for me. It’s not for everyone as it is one difficult cleanse, but it’s a journey with a positive effect.
What is the Master Cleanse?
In a nutshell the Master Cleanse is as it say’s…a cleanse for your body. It isn’t meant to be a weight-loss program although some have probably done it for that reason. I’ve had mixed opinions when telling people about the aim of this cleanse. Some are very open-minded and respectful and others may think it’s a bunch of nonsense. About 80% of people I’ve told about it have gone on to do it successfully themselves and others have tried. It isn’t for everyone as it is probably one of the hardest things to do (aside from child-birth…that one wins every time, hands down!!), it takes great determination, dedication, motivation and self-control.
The general idea of the cleanse is to give your digestive system a little break and allow a “flush-out” of mucus and plaque that forms on the intestines from un-digested waste and sickness. It’s sort of like giving the body an “oil change” the way we would service a car. Re-setting it’s natural balance. Our digestive system is being constantly put under pressure by foods we eat in this modern-day life (even with a healthy diet), or full of toxins that the rest of our body is sending its way.
So the physical benefits are huge, but I would also like to point out the benefits it has on mental well-being. I believe that if you’re ready to make some changes in your physical well-being whether it’s to lose weight, quit smoking, to break bad eating habits, or to find an alternative solution to a sickness you may have — such as, cholesterol, irritable bowel syndrome, etc…to avoid having to take medicine long-term…then the Master Cleanse may be for you. If your willing to try it, in my opinion that shows your dedication and open-mindedness to change. It’s a good place start on your journey to healthy living. While on it, your dedication is tested daily, and after completing it really makes you think about what you’re putting into your body as you feel like a nice clean engine! It’s also a great way to get back on the band wagon of healthy eating and living.
Some of the Benefits of the Master Cleanse:
It has been known to rid the body of stomach issues, ulcers, lower blood pressure, relieve the body of allergies, skin disorders and infections, eliminate cholesterol deposits that form in the arteries and veins. It essentially allows the body to thoroughly eliminate waste, allowing the body to function better. The digestive system forms a build-up of mucus which contains sickness and toxins from the body. Our bodies way of germ elimination. The problem is when it’s reached its maximum. Think of trying to wipe a table with a full sponge…not too successful I would say.
If you’re looking for a little challenge or are interested in what I’m talking about then I would strongly advise you to do your own research on this cleanse, as after all, only you can decide if it’s for you. If you are interested, than have a read of the condensed pdf version by Stanley Burroughs, the author. There is a lot in there, and of course his personal views on why we all need to be Vegans. While I respect vegans and vegetarians, and the importance of having a more plant-based diet rather than meat based — for our body’s sake and for the environment — I still love a good piece of steak from time to time!
Here is the link to his book (don’t worry it’s free info!):
Here is another website that I find helpful when doing the cleanse. It gives the basic steps and instructions.
I would like to end on saying that I am so proud of my husband, he just successfully completed a 10 day cleanse! He was 100% dedicated to following it precisely as instructed, and without giving in. (Or maybe my lack in cooking skills made it easier for him to do:-) My turn next!
Have you tried it, what positive effect did it bring you in your life?
