I love being a mom, what’s not to love – that morning cuddle and good night kiss. That feeling of being needed by someone that is totally dependant on you, trusting blindly that you will be taking care of them. What’s there not to love?
I know it’s been several months since my last blog post but let me explain why. Some of you may or may not have known that over the summer our little family did a major life changing move. We packed up house in Ireland and moved to Dallas, Texas! New country, new job, new house, new school, new everything.
All too often I find myself with the very earth shattering dilemma upon greeting a friend or someone I don’t know for the first time – do I shake, hug, or risk the highly precarious kiss on the cheek that may end up being a deafening ring as I land on the ear missing the cheek altogether? Being half Italian we generally give a hug with 2 kisses, one on each cheek. The trick is getting the first kiss on the correct cheek or else the dreaded “just-missed-full-smack-on-the-lips-kiss”occurs! So just for the record for those of you that don’t know me, you would probably not guess that I’m Italian as I don’t have an accent. But I guarantee it is not because I am a stalker or a happy hippy that I immediately go for the hug and kiss – but rather my nature and custom! …Read more
The month of February brings Valentine’s day to many, but to us it brings the memory of a very special day – February 16th – the day we vowed to stay together for better or for worse. We didn’t plan for it to be so close to Valentine’s day…remember how hard it was to get white flowers? The truth is we couldn’t have chosen a more romantic time of the year to bring back memories of our special day.
Being the health nut that I am I can have the tendency to go über religious not wanting a single treat, sweet, or junk food anywhere near my family. I have found that this isn’t a good balance as it puts too much pressure on being “perfect” instead of enjoying life around you. The dilemma of what to do anytime an occasion comes along which contains copious amounts of sweets? Help!! As a mom, do I relax and let my children enjoy a few chocolate treats and occasional fast food, or do I stay righteous and eat none?. Read More
As a mom of 3, I’m well aware of the mundane daily routine that takes place at the dinner table! Fussy kids, sick kids, tired kids…all a great reason/excuse of why your child just refuses to eat what’s on his or her plate! This resulting in the “table standoff”, usually ending in threats and tears (even mommy tears!!). Luckily, I would have to say that my kids are pretty adventurous when it comes to food, so the dinner table drama would be minimal. It’s not all perfect though…there are day’s when I wish I could just wave my magic wand and all would be different. Or call “Super Nanny” to come give me a hand….Read More
I remember loving the rain when I was little…I enjoyed it even more as an adventurous teenager – I would actually go out for walks with my friends just to get wet! Come a rainy day now and I’m like a stuck up cat I hate getting wet and when I do I am completely irritated that my toes are wet and I can’t play outside. Could it be old age?! Or maybe since joining motherhood I’ve lost my sense of child-like play and have incoherently opted for a more “responsible” don’t-get-sick-in-the-rain-mantra?…Read More
With childhood obesity on the rise, we as parents have a huge responsibility in keeping our children fit and healthy. Instilling good habits from a young age — raising “Fit Kids” through an “Active Family Unit” will have a huge impact on them for the rest of their life, and may even influence their outlook and the decisions they make. I believe that children are a direct example of their parents, and are extremely influenced in the guidelines we set out for them and the standards we make. At the end of the day, we’re the boss and the example they will follow…..Read more
